A man who needs very little introduction to those who know him, Steve Rennick joins the Mash Strategy team with 30 years of experience in journalism, the non-profit sector, politics, healthcare, government, and the energy industry. As the new Senior Strategist with the team, Steve's leadership, strategic advice and insight will help lead Mash's clients through challenges to ensure their success.
For the first 14 years of his career, Steve worked as a journalist and broadcaster across western Canada, with stops in Manitoba, Alberta, and Saskatchewan. Thus he developed a deep understanding, appreciation, and love for the Canadian Prairies. Following his part in the Saskatchewan Party’s historic 2007 election win, Steve served in the government of Premier Brad Wall as Director of Communications to Government Caucus for 6 years.
It may have been said before that you can't teach an old dog new tricks, but Steve has proven that doesn't apply to him, as he displayed remarkable adaptability and resilience to all the challenges and change that came his way in the years that followed.
Steve and his family returned to Alberta in 2013, working as a senior leader at Alberta Health Services, a short stint back in politics as Chief of Staff to the Leader of the Opposition and a government minister, and later going on to build a large non-partisan advocacy program for the oil and gas industry. This led to an opportunity to do similar work for the Government of Alberta during the most challenging public health crisis of our generation.
Since 2018, Steve has spent time in the private industry, working for public affairs agencies in Toronto and Alberta. On a personal note, Steve has been married for more than thirty years. He is a proud father and, in 2019, became a grandfather. Regardless of where his career takes him, Steve believes his most important roles are, and always will be, those of dad and grandpa.
In his spare time, Steve has developed an expertise in cosplay, standing in for an impressive cast of characters, from Batman to Mr. Spock, and many others in between.
We're excited to have him on the team. Welcome Steve!
